Both bands play have a blackened death metal sound but Fall of the Bastards have much more catchy melodic guitar riffs and an overall epic vibe. This is Book of Black Earth's first official release after their demo and Fall of the Bastards' final release.

Orcustus is two man Norwegian Black Metal band who released this self-titled full length on Southern Lord earlier this year. Their modern take on the classic Black Metal sound is similar to Watain, often times venturing into black'n'roll territory. The catchy, melodic guitar riffs and raw but clear production makes this a solid modern Black Metal album.

Their sound is similar to fellow Swedes Skitsystem, mixing Swedish Crust/D-Beat Hardcore and Swedish Death Metal with excellent results.

This album has not been out for very long, but its addition to the Infected Crypt collection is long overdue. This crusty slab of groove filled grindcore has been in constant listening rotation since it was released. The guitars have a definite Swedish Death Metal buzz and there is a significant change in song structure/writing. They have incorporated d-beat, Entombed-style death'n'roll and some sludgy riffs into their ferocious grindcore/powerviolence assault. With production by Kurt Ballou (Converge) and mastered by Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed), this shit seriously rules!

Fistula are one of my new favorite bands. I heard about them from their split they did with Sofa King Killer, but I didn't check out any of their albums until recently. Bad decision. I will always be a sucker for memorable fuzzed stoner riffs, and this album has 'em in spades. Throw in some truly tortured vocals on top and you have yourself one hell of a sludge album. They even do an awesome cover of "Cocaine" on here.
