Napalm Death- Scum

Artist: Napalm Death
Album: Scum
Genre: Grindcore
Year: 1987
Website: Myspace

FOR FANS OF: REPULSION, SIEGE, CELTIC FROST, BRUTAL TRUTH

Napalm Death's first LP, Scum, along with Repulsion's Horrified, basically created the blueprint for Grindcore. While Repulsion chose gory and grotesque subject matter, Napalm Death had more serious and political lyrics. The funny thing about this album is that the A side and B side are almost completely different bands, only drummer Mick Harris plays on both sides. Members on this album went on to play in Godflesh/Jesu, Cathedral, Carcass and many many other influential bands in metal. Napalm Death combined the speed and anger of Siege with the sludgy driving riffs of Celtic Frost to create a sound that influenced every grind band to come afterwards. Over twenty years after this album was released, Napalm Death are still alive and kicking, their most recent album "Time Waits For No Slave" is a document to how they have stuck with what works and still beat the shit out of most bands half their age.

Aura Noir- Black Thrash Attack

Artist: Aura Noir
Album: Black Thrash Attack
Genre: Thrash/Black Metal
Year: 1996
Website: Myspace

FOR FANS OF: ABSU, BATHORY, SLAYER, IMMORTAL, DARKTHRONE

Aura Noir are a prime example of modern day black thrash. Their thrash guitars and black metal vocals are a unstoppable combo. The guitar riffs on this album are what really stand out and give this album multiple playback quality. Another one of their albums, The Merciless, was posted on here a while back, so make sure to grab that too if you enjoy this one.

Parlamentarisk Sodomi- Har Du Sagt "A" Får Du Si "Nal"

Artist: Parlamentarisk Sodomi
Album: Har Du Sagt "A" Får Du Si "Nal"
Genre: Grindcore
Year: 2008
Website: Myspace

FOR FANS OF: REPULSION, TERRORIZER, NAPALM DEATH, PHOBIA

Don't worry if you can't correctly pronounce the bands name or their album title, neither can I. What you do need to worry about is your head caving in from the vicious grind that it waiting to be unleashed upon you. Fifteen songs of classic sounding grind. From what I've read, the band consists only of one member, but sounds much better than most "solo project" grind bands. Let this shit grind your fucking face in.

Dissection- The Somberlain

Artist: Dissection
Album: The Somberlain
Genre: Black/Death Metal
Year: 1993
Website: Myspace

FOR FANS OF: DAWN, DARKTHRONE, IMMORTAL, THE FUNERAL PYRE

Dissection were just one of the many awesome bands coming out of Sweden in the early 90's. They combined the darkness and cold hearted lead tremolo picking of black metal and the raw and powerful force of death metal to create an amazing sound. Dissection was reborn in 2004 and released the very rock'n'roll influenced album, Reinkaos, and shortly after, their vocalist/guitarist Jon Nödtveidt committed suicide in the middle of a candle lit pentagram in what was believed to be some sort or occult ritual. If you like a little bit of death in your black metal, or you like your death metal painted black, you can't go wrong with The Somberlain.

Akimbo- Elephantine

Artist: Akimbo
Album: Elephantine
Genre: Hardcore/Stoner Metal
Year: 2005
Website: Myspace

FOR FANS OF: SAVIOURS, TRAP THEM, MAJORITY RULE, LORDS, BARONESS

Akimbo started out as a more straight forward screamo/hardcore band but on this album they incorporate massive amounts of stonery riffs. It is a great mix of agressive and groovy heaviness. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. They have since released a few solid albums since this one, but Elephantine remains my favorite.
